Eating more local
Aaron and I had grand plans to do an "eat local" month this year, trying to eat only foods grown within 100 miles. Can't remember why we didn't join the Students for Sustainable Agriculture club in doing it for the week in the fall, but we planned to do it late spring/early summer, hoping to be knee-deep in veggies from Aaron's garden and eggs from our girls. Our hens aren't quite laying yet, but we got some delicious eggs, cherries and bacon from the farmers' market, and added them to Aaron's potatoes, onion, garlic and zucchini for a June breakfast kick-off.
However, we gave ourselves permission to eat non-local food when eating out as well as letting ourselves continue to eat food in our cupboards which makes this not so much "eat local" month as "eat more local" month. Another month we'll be more strict...we need to find some local sources for some staples first.
